Tea on the Go
Duration: 4 Days
Skills: UI Design, UX Design, Visual Design, Competitive Analysis, User Flow, Interaction Design
My Role: This was a side project.
Challenge: The milk tea industry is huge in San Francisco and there currently does not exist an app that let's you order a boba drink as a carryout or delivery.
Solution: Create a milk tea service app.
End Product: An app that allows for customizable drinks and the option to pick it up in the store or have it delivered.
The Design Process
Why:
This was a side-project that I did for fun. Milk tea drinks are very popular in the Bay Area and Asia and I believe this service has potential since there currently is no app like this out in the market.
Competitive Analysis:
To see what other food apps are doing and what their process is like, I downloaded several similar services: Round Table, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Eat24, Munchery, Grub Hub, and Postmates. I took note of what was missing from their app and what I wanted on mines.
Designing on Different Devices:
The app is also designed on the Apple Watch, iPad, and Samsung Galaxy S5. It's a challenge to work with different platforms because each medium comes with a separate set of obstacles. The Apple Watch, for example, has a much smaller screen. It doesn't have much space for anything, so it forces you to decide what's important and what's not.
Reflection:
This was a startup idea that I had in 2015. I would love to see it become implemented into a real app and business some day.
